It’s Time For Term Limits in Washington D.C.

I agree with the solutions presented by David French in the Wall Street Journal to eliminate the ability of the one judge to issue an injunction affecting the entire country, and even more so the idea of term limits for justices of 18 years. Of course, this would require an amendment to the Constitution and would not get Congress to meeting its responsibility of legislating rather than delegate to the Executive or Judicial Branch.

Career Politicians Are Destroying America

If we are going through the process of amending the Constitution, let’s do it right in regard to term limits. The biggest problem today is the career politician who is faced with periodic re-election and, therefore, the need to gather money from outside sources. Here are my suggestions:

  • President: One Term of 6 years.
  • Senate:  One Term of 8 years, with one fourth of the Senate being newly elected every two years.
  • House of Representatives:  One term of 4 years, with one half of the House being elected every 2 years.

  • Supreme Court: One term of 18 years, with a new appointment every 2 years. To avoid the radical swings in the ideology of the Supreme Court, all nominees must receive 60% of the members of the Senate to be confirmed.
  • No special laws or benefits shall be passed for the benefit of politicians that are superior to those received by the citizens of the United States.
  • Vacancies in the office of President shall be addressed as currently in place. Vacancies in the Senate and House shall be addressed as currently in place.  Vacancies in the Supreme Court shall be replaced by a nomination and confirmation procedure, but only for the remaining term of the justice who has resigned, retired, or died.

These changes will take much of the money and corruption out of politics and stop some of the in fighting, not to mention requiring that those who make the laws will be required to go back into society and live under the laws they passed.
