Positive Thought for the Week of May 11, 2020

Remembering and Forgiving

Has anyone ever lied to you, ridiculed you, embarrassed you in front of others, gossiped to you about someone you know, or insulted you in some way?  Or an even thornier question, have you ever done one of those things to someone you know?

You can apologize; say you’re sorry; try to make amends, but once done it cannot be taken back. The “victim” might accept your apology and say that the forgive you. The question is, did they forget what you did to them?  When something like this happens it is like pounding a nail into a piece of wood. The apology is like pulling the nail out of the wood, but, guess what.  The hole is still there in the wood.

If you lie to someone, can you ever fully trust them again? If someone gossips to you about a joint friend, don’t you wonder what they say about you to other people? All of these things linger in your subconscious, and will always be stored there. The forgiveness is there on the surface, but the harm will always linger.

So, next time you think a negative thought or are ready to tell a little white lie, run those comments and thoughts through the “shut-up” filter in your brain. It will be better for you and the person to whom it was going to be delivered. You won’t lose many friends that way.
