Positive Thought for the Week of January 6, 2020

You can catch more bees with honey than with vinegar.

What a simple saying. I remember when I was a kid living in Santa Maria, California, I had a newspaper route (when is was safe for kids to have one). I had one area on my route where many times when I rode by on my bike, a dog would chase me. One day, there was a repair guy at my house (I can’t remember what he was repairing), and I told him about this dog and that I was planning to carry my baseball bat to ward him off if he chased me again.

He told me that a better way to handle things was to bring a dog biscuit or other treat, and when the dog chased me to just stop and hold out the treat. He said that if I did this, that dog would become my friend and instead of chasing me, he would just be coming out to greet me and see if I brought him a treat.

I followed his advice, and sure enough, that dog became my friend instead of a tormentor.

This little story has a couple of lessons. You do have better results with honey than being a sour puss, and you can learn something from anyone if you keep your mind open.  See you next week.
