Well, I am really late this week. This week is the letter “N” and I have been trying to decide what to write about. I thought I would share some quotes about “neighbors.” Webster’s has a number of definitions of neighbors, including “a person who lives near another” and “a person who shows kindness toward fellow humans.”
We have plenty that fit the first description, but not so many that fit the second. At least not based on some of the acidic remarks that appear here from time to time.
One anonymous quote is “Don’t expect your neighbor to be better than your neighbor’s neighbor.” In other words, if you are not being a good neighbor, you have no right to expect your neighbor to be a good neighbor.
“Don’t throw stones at your neighbors if your own windows are glass.”
“The world is full of fools and faint hearts; and yet everyone has courage enough to bear the misfortunes, and wisdom enough to manage the affairs, of his neighbor.” – Benjamin Franklin
Bottom line is that it is a full-time job taking care of your own business. Don’t try to take care of your neighbor’s business, too.
